Tuesday March 11 at 4:53 PM Woonsocket Police responded to a reported shooting at a multi room apartment building located at 323 Main Street. Officers arrived and located a 32 year old male resident of the 2nd floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers learned that the suspect involved in the shooting was also a resident of the building a 57 year old male who resided on the 3rd floor and had gone into his room just minutes ago. Officers located the room which was locked and began to speak with the suspect through the locked door in an attempt to have him peacefully surrender. The suspect briefly engaged the officers in conversation. Officers then heard a suspected gunshot and made forced entry into the room and located the suspect who had shot himself. Both victims were treated for their injuries by Woonsocket Fire and Rescue who had responded with the police.

The 32 year old victim was transported by Woonsocket Resue to RI Hospital. That individual is in critical but stable condition.

The 57 year old shooting suspect was transported to Landmark Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his self-inflicted gunshot injury.

 

The investigation continues at this time. Initial information is that the parties involved knew each other and were involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting occurred.

President Trump says only the U.S. can protect Greenland. He made the comment while addressing world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland today. Trump argued Denmark could not protect Greenland during World War Two. He said the U.S. was "stupid" to give Greenland back to Denmark after the war was over.        Lindsay Halligan is out as interim U.S. attorney. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi made the announcement on social media Tuesday night saying Democratic senators had made it impossible for Halligan's term to continue. Earlier in the day, a federal judge said Halligan was "masquerading" as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.        A big stretch of the country from Texas into the Northeast will see a major winter storm bring ice and snow this week. In the meantime, frigid Arctic air will continue to freeze parts of the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast. Forecasters say that air comes ahead of a storm that will hit much of the Southeast and East Friday through Sunday.        Former NFL journalist Michele Tafoya is preparing a run for the Minnesota Senate as a Republican. Tafoya, who worked as a "Sunday Night Football" sideline reporter for NBC until 2022, has repeatedly attacked two Senate Democratic candidates in the state on social media. Republicans are looking to flip the seat held by Tina Smith, who is retiring.        International health officials may revoke the country's measles elimination status due to an outbreak. The Pan American Health Organization declared the disease eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but a recent outbreak of more than 640 cases in South Carolina could lead the organization to reconsider its ruling. Officials with the U.S. Center for Disease Control said on Tuesday they aren't overly concerned.        Jannik Sinner is moving on to the second round of the Australian Open. His opponent, Hugo Gaston, retired with an undisclosed injury following the second set. In other second round action, top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, 11th-seeded Daniil Medvedev and 19th-seeded American Tommy Paul each won and will be advancing to the third round.
