RIPTA Service to Run Holiday Schedule in Observance of Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024

 

Veterans Ride Free on Veterans Day with Valid ID

 

Providence, Rhode Island - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will offer free service on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024, to all Rhode Island veterans with proof of eligibility. Veterans must show a veterans identification card or a driver’s license with a “V” on it when boarding in order to ride at no charge.

 

All passengers are reminded that RIPTA services will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Veterans Day.

 

Flex Service

RIPTA Flex Routes will not operate on Veterans Day except for Flex Route 203 (URI/Narragansett/South Kingstown) which will operate from 10am to 5pm. The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) will not be staffed on the holiday.  However, passengers can schedule their 203 Flex reservation using the Flex On Demand mobile app. Visit RIPTA.com/FlexOnDemand for more information.

 

RIde Paratransit Program

On Monday, November 11, the RIde Program will operate on a holiday schedule. The RIde program does not provide standing order trips (recurring service) on RIPTA holidays. If you need a ride on the holiday, please call the RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) before November 11 to schedule a trip. The RIde reservation line will not be staffed on Veterans Day. 

 

RIPTA Offices

RIPTA offices and the Kennedy Plaza Ticket Window will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of the holiday. The RIPTA Customer Service Kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center will be open on Monday, November 11 from 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.

Holiday travel is being disrupted by severe winter weather. So far over nine-thousand flights have been delayed and more than 650 have been canceled according to Flight Aware. Boston Logan and New York LaGuardia are two of the hardest hit airports. Over eight million Americans are expected to fly domestically this holiday season.        President Trump says the U.S. is retaliating against ISIS with military strikes in Syria. The president posted on Truth Social the strikes are against the "murderous terrorists" responsible for the killing of three Americans in Syria last weekend. Two National Guardsmen from Iowa and a civilian interpreter were killed. There are reports the U.S. struck dozens of targets, using fighter jets, helicopters and artillery.        Newly-released Epstein files include multiple photos of former President Bill Clinton. One shows Clinton in a hot tub next to someone whose face has been redacted. Another shows the former president and Mick Jagger with a woman whose face has been blacked out. The photos were released without any background information, so it's not clear when or where they were taken.        President Trump isn't ruling out war with Venezuela. Trump made the comment in a phone interview with NBC News on Thursday. Earlier in the week, the President ordered a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers coming and going from the South American country. Trump didn't rule out seizing more oil tankers after the U.S. seized one recently near Venezuela. In the interview, Trump wouldn't say if ousting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is his ultimate goal but he added "he knows exactly what I want."        Officials have confirmed the suspect believed to have opened fire at Brown University also killed an MIT professor. Claudio Neves Valente was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday in a New Hampshire storage unit. U.S. Attorney Leah Foley said at a news conference authorities had probable cause to charge the Portuguese national in the deaths of the two students at Brown and the MIT professor. The professor was shot Monday in his home outside Boston.        The College Football Playoff is kicking off this evening. Number eight Oklahoma is hosting number nine Alabama in a first round game at Memorial Stadium in Norman. The winner will take on number-one Indiana in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. Elsewhere, Western Michigan throttled Kennesaw State 41-to-6 in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
