The FAA is cutting flights at 40 major U.S. airports as the government shutdown stretches into its 38th day. Starting today, about four-percent of flights are canceled, with reductions set to rise to ten-percent by next week. The cuts come as unpaid air traffic controllers continue calling in sick, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says safety remains the top priority.        Several people fell ill after opening a suspicious package at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. The package reportedly contained a white powder and political propaganda, prompting a temporary lockdown and evacuation of two buildings. Those affected were treated at the base medical center and released in stable condition, while an investigation continues.        A federal judge says the Trump administration has to pay full November SNAP benefits by today. The judge in Rhode Island said during Thursday's hearing that "people have gone without for too long." The Trump administration had planned to partially fund the food stamp program for 42-million Americans.        Kentucky has launched an emergency relief fund for families affected by the UPS plane crash in Louisville. Thirteen people, including three crew members, died when the cargo plane exploded at takeoff Tuesday, and several remain missing. Governor Beshear says donations to help cover funeral expenses can be made through the official Team Kentucky website.        Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died by suicide at age 24, Texas police say. Kneeland was found early Thursday after a multi-agency search following a car chase. Officers had responded Wednesday night to a welfare check requested by his girlfriend, and he had reportedly expressed suicidal thoughts. The Cowboys called him a beloved teammate.        Google is buying 200-thousand metric tons of carbon credits to help restore part of the Amazon rainforest. The tech giant is paying a Brazilian company to remove the carbon by purchasing farmland and regrowing forests. The move is part of Google's effort to fight climate change and support global reforestation.
