RIPTA Service to Run Holiday Schedule in Observance of Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024

 

Free Bus Service for All Local Veterans on Veterans Day and to WaterFire – A Salute to Veterans on November 2

 

Providence, Rhode Island - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will offer free service on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024, to all Rhode Island veterans with proof of eligibility. All passengers are reminded that RIPTA services will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Veterans Day.

 

RIPTA will also offer free service for veterans to WaterFire – A Salute to Veterans on Saturday, November 2, 2024.  On both dates, veterans must show a veteran’s identification card or a driver’s license with a “V” on it when boarding in order to ride at no charge.   

 

Flex Service

RIPTA Flex Routes will not operate on Veterans Day except for Flex Route 203 (URI/Narragansett/South Kingstown) which will operate from 10 am to 5 pm. The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) will not be staffed on the holiday.  However, passengers can schedule their 203 Flex reservation using the Flex On Demand mobile app. Visit RIPTA.com/FlexOnDemand for more information.

 

RIde Paratransit Program

On Monday, November 11, the RIde Program will operate on a holiday schedule. The RIde program does not provide standing order trips (recurring service) on RIPTA holidays. If you need a ride on the holiday, please call the RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) before November 11 to schedule a trip. The RIde reservation line will not be staffed on Veterans Day. 

 

RIPTA Offices

RIPTA offices and the Kennedy Plaza Ticket Window will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of the holiday. The RIPTA Customer Service Kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center will be open on Monday, November 11 from 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.

President Trump is set to welcome in Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado to the White House. Trump's relationship with Machado has become somewhat complicated since the U.S. arrested former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. Following that military operation, Trump said Machado "doesn't have the support within, or the respect within, the country," adding, "She's a very nice woman, but she doesn't have the respect."        President Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act in response to anti-ICE demonstrations in Minnesota. In a Truth Social post this morning, Trump said he will take action "if the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don't obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of ICE." A president hasn't invoked the Insurrection Act since President George H.W. Bush in 1992 when the Rodney King riots broke out in Los Angeles.        Several states are under the threat of winter weather as a cold front moves in. The National Weather Service says the strong cold front will create favorable conditions for lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes today. Up to six inches of snow and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour are predicted from Minnesota to Maryland, and as far south as Tennessee.        California Governor Gavin Newsom is rejecting a request to extradite a doctor to Louisiana after that doctor allegedly mailed a woman abortion pills. Newsom says a 2022 executive order gives him the legal authority to refuse the extradition request. The San Francisco-based doctor mailed the woman abortion medications that were approved by the FDA in 2000.        The talent agency Innovative Artists is cutting ties with actor Timothy Busfield after his arrest on child sex abuse charges. The actor is accused of sexually abusing two boys who acted on the show he directed and produced at the time, "The Cleaning Lady." Busfield is also facing new accusations that he sexually abused a 16-year-old girl during an audition in California.        The Sony Open is underway in Hawaii. The first PGA Tour event of the season is taking place at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Last year's winner was Nick Taylor and he's back in the field this year. The season was supposed to begin last week with The Sentry in Maui but the event was canceled due to a drought and water restrictions.
