RIPTA Service to Run Holiday Schedule in Observance of Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024

 

Free Bus Service for All Local Veterans on Veterans Day and to WaterFire – A Salute to Veterans on November 2

 

Providence, Rhode Island - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will offer free service on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024, to all Rhode Island veterans with proof of eligibility. All passengers are reminded that RIPTA services will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Veterans Day.

 

RIPTA will also offer free service for veterans to WaterFire – A Salute to Veterans on Saturday, November 2, 2024.  On both dates, veterans must show a veteran’s identification card or a driver’s license with a “V” on it when boarding in order to ride at no charge.   

 

Flex Service

RIPTA Flex Routes will not operate on Veterans Day except for Flex Route 203 (URI/Narragansett/South Kingstown) which will operate from 10 am to 5 pm. The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) will not be staffed on the holiday.  However, passengers can schedule their 203 Flex reservation using the Flex On Demand mobile app. Visit RIPTA.com/FlexOnDemand for more information.

 

RIde Paratransit Program

On Monday, November 11, the RIde Program will operate on a holiday schedule. The RIde program does not provide standing order trips (recurring service) on RIPTA holidays. If you need a ride on the holiday, please call the RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) before November 11 to schedule a trip. The RIde reservation line will not be staffed on Veterans Day. 

 

RIPTA Offices

RIPTA offices and the Kennedy Plaza Ticket Window will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of the holiday. The RIPTA Customer Service Kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center will be open on Monday, November 11 from 8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.

Hurricane Melissa has made landfall on Jamaica. Melissa is the strongest storm the planet has seen this year and is bringing extremely dangerous conditions to the island nation. Life-threatening flooding, several feet of rain and landslides are all expected.        The Senate has failed to advance another measure aimed at ending the government shutdown, which has stretched into its fourth week. This comes as a group of Democratic states and Washington, D.C. are suing the Trump administration as millions are set to lose food assistance on Saturday. Meanwhile, flight delays are starting to pile up as air traffic control towers deal with staffing issues.        House Republicans are pushing for Justice Department to investigate the Biden administration's use of an autopen. In a report released on Tuesday, the GOP-led House Oversight Committee said despite past presidents using autopens, former President Biden was "cognitively impaired" and his staff took advantage with a "laissez faire" approach. Chair James Comer asked the Department of Health's Board of Medicine to investigate Biden's doctor.        The top Border Patrol agent overseeing "Operation Midway Blitz" in Chicago is appearing before a federal judge. Judge Sara Ellis ordered U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino to appear and answer questions about the use of chemical agents on civilian protesters. Bovino is accused of violating a temporary restraining order blocking federal agencies from using certain tactics against those protesting immigration enforcement operations in Illinois.        Job growth in the private sector has been strong over the last four weeks. ADP says preliminary data shows more than 14-thousand jobs were added on average during the period ending October 11th. That's a strong turnaround from September.        World Series game four is set for tonight following last night's marathon 18-inning game. The Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-to-5 thanks to a Freddie Freeman walkoff home run. Tonight will see Shohei Ohtani take the mound for the Dodgers while Shane Bieber will get the start for Toronto.
