City Council Regular Meeting - Nov 04 2024

President Trump is mulling over a possible swap of American Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine drones. During a press event at the White House between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, Zelensky said he'd swap Ukranian drones for the Tomahawks, to which Trump said the U.S. "is interested." Trump has been trying to broker a Ukraine-Russia peace deal since the start of his second term, and will be meeting face-to-face with Russian President Putin in two weeks.        John Bolton says he's innocent of the federal charges levied against him. The former national security adviser to President Trump was indicted yesterday on charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents. He surrendered to federal authorities in Maryland this morning. A vocal critic of Trump, Bolton says that the indictment is politically motivated. A trial date has not been set.        President Trump has some strong words for Venezuela's president. During a cabinet meeting, Trump said President Maduro doesn't want to mess around with the U.S., using a four-letter expletive in place of the word "mess" when he spoke. His comments come as tensions between Trump and Maduro rise, with another U.S. strike against a suspected drug boat in Caribbean waters Thursday. Venezuela says six people were killed, and multiple reports say the U.S. is holding survivors of that strike aboard a Navy ship.        A man who was sentenced almost 30 years ago has been put to death in Arizona. Richard Djerf [[ jerf ]] was found guilty on four counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in 1996. He died by lethal injection for killing four members of a Phoenix family, including a five-year-old boy. This marked the fourth execution in the nation this week.        Maryland police say they were surprised by the overwhelming response to a call for volunteers to smoke weed in front of them. The request for adults to take part in the smoking session at the upcoming Maryland Highway Safety Office's DUI Conference went out on social media earlier this week. The program gives student officers a chance to observe real-time cannabis impairment so they can easily recognize it when they hit the streets on their own.        There's four games on the college football slate tonight. Number two Miami will host Louisville in ACC battle at 7 p.m. eastern. In a Big Ten clash, Minnesota will welcome in Nebraska at 8 p.m. Later, San Jose State will take on Utah State at 9 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., California will play host to North Carolina.
