Agenda posted September 5, 2023

President Trump is threatening U.S. intervention if Iran kills peaceful protesters during the current economic unrest. Trump posted on Truth Social early this morning, saying the U.S. is "locked and loaded and ready to go" if peaceful protesters die, and "will come to their rescue." Senior Iranian officials quickly responded, and warned that U.S. intervention would spark chaos in the region.        New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is rolling back executive orders issued by his predecessor. Mamdani issued an order Thursday revoking nine executive orders from former Mayor Eric Adams, all issued after Adams' 2024 federal indictments. Some of those orders are related to immigration, how the city defines anti-semitism, and boycotts of Israel.        Higher health insurance costs are impacting more than 20-million Americans after Congress allowed federal tax subsidies to expire at year's end. The average cost of premiums through the Affordable Care Act is now expected to rise by 26-percent across the U.S. Millions of people are expected to drop their health insurance because of the price hikes.        Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says he's ready to discuss oil and drug trafficking with the U.S. In a Spanish-language interview published yesterday, Maduro said if the U.S. wants to "talk seriously about an agreement to combat drug trafficking, we are ready." He also talked about the U.S. seizing Venezuelan oil, and said "If they want Venezuelan oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investments like with Chevron, whenever they want, wherever they want, and however they want."        Thousands still made their way to yesterday's Rose Parade in Pasadena, California despite the weather. It marked just the 11th time in its 137-year history that the Parade saw rain. The last time it rained on the parade was in 2006.        The College Football Playoff's final four is set. Number five Oregon will meet top-ranked Indiana in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta next Friday. Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Ole Miss will play number-ten Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona next Thursday.
