Agenda posted September 5, 2023

Parts of the U.S. are feeling record cold temperatures. A polar vortex from the North Pole has shifted south over Canada, and will be pushing chilly sub-zero temperatures down into the U.S. as far south as Missouri and Kentucky starting tonight into Thursday. Tonight's low-temperature forecast includes 13 degrees in St. Louis, four degrees in Chicago, ten below in Minneapolis, and 18 degrees below zero in Fargo.        Federal immigration operations have begun in New Orleans and Minneapolis. Yesterday, President Trump said he would soon be sending National Guard troops to Louisiana at the request of Governor Jeff Landry. Meanwhile, several reports say similar operations are underway in Minneapolis, specifically targeting areas that contain Somali immigrants.        Stocks are up to end the day on Wall Street. It comes after the ADP's report this morning showed private employers shed 32-thousand jobs in November. Eyes also keep turning towards the Federal Reserve, with reports suggesting President Trump has made up his mind about who should be the next Fed chair. Most indications point towards Trump's longtime economic advisor Kevin Hassett. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 408 points to 47-882.        Flu activity is rising in some states according to new data from the CDC. The data shows there has been a five-percent week-over-week increase in positive flu tests but in a few states the rise in cases has been even steeper. Colorado and Louisiana have become the first two states of this flu season to reach the "high" category for flu activity while New York City is also showing "moderate" activity.        Luigi Mangione will be back in court tomorrow. The man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is trying to get evidence tossed from his upcoming trial in Manhattan. Tomorrow marks one year since Thompson's murder.        Spotify's top global artist for 2025 is Bad Bunny. It's the fourth time the Puerto Rican musician has topped the list. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift came in second on the global artist list and first on the U.S. top artist list.
