Woonsocket, RI – The 45th Autumnfest Celebration will be held Columbus Day Weekend (October 7-9) at World War II Veterans Memorial Park in Woonsocket.  The 2023 Autumnfest Steering Committee invites the community to the Autumnfest Kick-Off Party which will honor this year's Co-Grand Marshals, Bob & Nancy Phillips.

 

Bob Phillips is the State Representative for District 51 (Woonsocket & Cumberland) and he is also a full-time substitute teacher with the Woonsocket school system.  Bob is also a past member of the Autumnfest Steering Committee.  He spent 18 continuous yeas on the committee.  His last 2 years were in 2009 & 2010 where he was the Autumnfest General Chairperson.  Nancy Phillips is a retired Woonsocket Physical Education Teacher who continues to substitute teach with the Woonsocket school system.  She also volunteers 4 days a week at New Beginnings.  Nancy is the President of the Woonsocket Chapter of the Lions Club and is a past member of the Autumnfest Steering Committee serving for more than 30 years.

A limited number of tickets are available for the Autumnfest Kick-Off Party to be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Savini’s Pomodoro Italian Kitchen & Bar, 476 Rathbun Street, Woonsocket, RI from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Tickets are $35.00 per person, $60.00 per couple or a table of 8 for $300. Sponsor tables also available for $500 which includes a VIP table of 8, sponsor name at entry, sponsor name during ceremony, sponsor name on website page, complimentary bottle of champagne, and professional photo with our 2023 Co-Grand Marshals. It's shaping up to be a record-breaking holiday travel season. Triple-A predicts over 122-million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home to reach their holiday destinations. That's a two-point-two percent increase from last year, with most traveling by car. Another eight-million people are expected to catch a flight.        President Trump is set to make an announcement with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth later today. The White House says the president will be joined by the Secretary of the Navy for the announcement from Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach. It comes after the U.S. has seized more oil tankers from Venezuela as tensions with the South American country rise.        A group of alleged Jeffrey Epstein victims has accused the Justice Department of violating the law with a partial release of files related to the convicted sex offender. The DOJ missed a Friday deadline imposed by Congress to release all of the files. Thousands were released, but the group said the public was given only a fraction of the files that were riddled with abnormal and extreme redactions with no explanation.        Paramount is floating an amended offer in its bid for Warner Bros. Discovery. In an effort to sweeten the deal, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who is the father of Paramount CEO David Ellison, is guaranteeing all 40-point-four-billion dollars of the equity he's putting up to finance the 78-billion-dollar deal. Paramount's new proposal also offers a five-point-eight-billion-dollar fee instead of the initial five billion dollars promised to shareholders if the deal were to fall through.        There's just a single game on the college football bowl schedule today. Utah State will take on Washington State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise. Both teams ended the regular season with a record of six-and-six. Kick off is set for 2 p.m. eastern.        Barry Manilow says he's battling lung cancer. The singer revealed the diagnosis in an Instagram post Monday, saying the cancer was found when he underwent a MRI after getting bronchitis. Manilow said the cancerous spot on his lung was found early and he will undergo surgery to have it removed. Manilow told fans he plans to be back on stage at his Las Vegas residency on February 12th.
