Amo Statement on the Death of Yahya Sinwar

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) released the following statement:

“Today is a reminder that terrorists have no safe haven and cannot avoid justice,” said Congressman Gabe Amo, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. “As the mastermind of Hamas’ terrorist attack on October 7th, Yahya Sinwar bears responsibility for so much death and destruction in its aftermath. I hope his removal ensures Hamas cannot carry out such an attack again and we can finally end the bloodshed. We must achieve a ceasefire and focus on building a secure, peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”

A National Guard member who was allegedly shot by an Afghan national just blocks from the White House has died from her wounds. A second soldier was injured in Wednesday's shooting and is reportedly in critical condition. The suspected gunman is also in the hospital. Authorities say he's an Afghan national who had worked with the U.S. to fight the Taliban.        Black Friday is here. The day is often considered the official kickoff to the holiday gift-buying season. The National Retail Federation estimates a record number of shoppers, nearly 190 million, will do some Christmas shopping between now and Cyber Monday. Fifty-percent of consumers say they'll buy clothing and accessories.        Forecasters are warning travelers heading home after the holidays to be prepared for slow traffic and flight delays. Today, driving will be hazardous in parts of the Midwest and Northeast, where lake-effect snow could cause whiteout conditions. The South-Central U.S. could see heavy rains, causing flight delays from East Texas to Western Kentucky.        The death toll continues to climb in Hong Kong where at least 128 people are now reported dead and dozens more injured after a high-rise housing complex went up in flames. Hundreds are still unaccounted for. Firefighters have largely extinguished the blaze that started Wednesday and spread quickly across the seven towers.        UPS is grounding its fleet of cargo planes after a deadly crash in Kentucky. The MD-11 cargo planes will be re-inspected for possible repairs and will miss the holiday delivery season. A company memo says Boeing's ongoing evaluation of the carrier fleet shows potential repairs may be more extensive than expected.        The Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers celebrated Thanksgiving by continuing their winning streaks. The Packers beat the Detroit Lions 31-24 on Thursday to nab their third straight victory. Then the Cowboys beat the Kansas City Chiefs in a 31-28 nailbiter to score their third win in a row.
