RIPTA Announces New Paid Prep Test Course Program For Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Permit in Collaboration with RI Institute for Labor Studies & Research (ILSR)


RIPTA will pay qualified applicants $25.33 per hour to prepare for the CDL permit test in an instructor-led classroom hosted by ILSR


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) and the Rhode Island Institute for Labor Studies & Research (ILSR) are excited to announce the launch of a new Commercial Driver's License (CDL) prep course program, designed to attract and prepare new transit drivers in obtaining their CDL permit. This innovative program offers participants the opportunity to earn $25.33 per hour as they prepare for their CDL permit test in an instructor-led classroom.


To kick off this initiative, RIPTA is hosting a job fair on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at RIPTA Headquarters, 705 Elmwood Avenue in Providence. This event will provide a unique opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the new program, undergo onsite interviews, and start the prescreening process for the paid CDL permit test prep course program.

The security perimeter is expected to be taken down overnight with most visiting the city headed out of town and back home.       Doubts are growing among prominent Democrats about President Biden's campaign. "The Washington Post" reports former President Obama told his allies Biden needs to "seriously consider the viability of his candidacy." The Post says Obama has been taking calls from worried Democrats. Meanwhile, "Axios" reports Biden may be persuaded by Democratic party leaders and close friends to drop out of the race by this weekend.       A meeting has reportedly taken place between the director of the Secret Service and former President Trump. FOX News reports the brief meeting took place last night at the Republican National Convention. It's not known yet what they spoke about. Director Kimberly Cheatle has faced intense scrutiny about the reported failures at Donald Trump's Pennsylvania rally where he was grazed by a would-be assassin's bullet.       President Biden today is announcing another round of student debt forgiveness. This time around, it's one-point-two-billion-dollars in relief for public sector workers like teachers, nurses and firefighters. Borrowers can qualify through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Meantime, Republicans are leading legal challenges to the administration's earlier debt forgiveness efforts.       Francis Ford Coppola, Bonnie Raitt and The Grateful Dead are among the honorees at this year's John F. Kennedy Center honors. The 47th annual Kennedy Center event will take place in December, and the sitting president traditionally attends. Other honorees will include jazz musician Arturo Sandoval.       The United States cruised to a big victory in their third contest of the USA Basketball Showcase. Team USA took down three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic [[ yo-kitch ]] and Serbia 105-79 in an exhibition game in Abu Dhabi. The Americans are now 3-and-0 during their warmup tour for the Paris Olympics. Jokic posted 16 points and 11 boards for Serbia in the losing effort. Team USA will now square off against South Sudan on Saturday in London.
