North Smithfield man to serve 6 years in state prison for possession of 15 ghost guns and dozens of large capacity magazines

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a North Smithfield man has been sentenced in Providence County Superior Court to serve six years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for possession of 15 ghost guns and dozens of large capacity magazines in his Slatersville home.

On May 2, 2024, during a hearing before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers, Elliott Knorr (age 44) was sentenced to 10 years at the Adult Corrections Institution with six years to serve and a four-year suspended sentence with 10 years of probation. Previously, in April 2024, the defendant entered pleas of nolo contendere to one count of possession of ghost guns, one count of possession of large capacity magazines, and one count of conspiracy to discharge a firearm in a compact area.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant had in his possession 15 ghost guns and three dozen large capacity magazines, as well as conspiring to fire a shotgun near a public park.

In March 2023, the Rhode Island State Police’s Intelligence Unit developed the defendant as a suspect involved in an incident where a shotgun was fired in the vicinity of Pacheco Park in North Smithfield.

On March 29, 2023, members of the Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at the defendant’s home in North Smithfield where they arrested him and seized 23 guns, including 15 ghost guns, ghost gun jigs, and manufacturing tools, as well as 36 large capacity magazines. They also seized additional non-large capacity magazines and significant amounts of various calibers of ammunition.

Investigators also seized the defendant’s cell phone and reviewed video of the shooting incident that depicted the defendant voluntarily being shot in his backyard, which abuts Pacheco Park, with two bystanders nearby in the line of fire. The defendant later told investigators that he was voluntarily shot with “rubber buck shot.”

Special Assistant Attorney General Daniel Hopkins of the Office of the Attorney General and Detective Mathew Lynch of the Rhode Island State Police led the investigation and prosecution of the case.

 

The FBI is confirming former President Trump was hit by a bullet at his Pennsylvania rally nearly two weeks ago. In a statement Friday, the agency said, "What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces." Trump and his allies had pushed back on FBI Director Christopher Way's testimony to Congress earlier this week when he said it was not clear if a bullet or shrapnel had struck Trump's ear.       Vice President Harris is receiving the endorsement of Barack and Michelle Obama in the Democratic race for president. The former president and first lady released a video this morning showing Vice President Harris speaking on the phone with both of them. In a joint statement announcing the endorsement, the Obamas said, "There is no doubt in our mind that Kamala Harris has exactly what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people."       The Olympic flame is burning bright as the Summer Games are now officially open. Discovery over its rejected television rights deal. The media company alleges the league breached its contracted when it chose to accept Amazon's bid instead of the one from W-B-D. TNT has aired NBA games since 1989 and is home to popular "Inside the NBA" studio show with Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson.        A new cereal mix combining three of Travis and Jason Kelce's childhood favorites is in the works. The Kelce brothers are partnering with General Mills to release the 'Kelce Mix Cereal,' which combines Reese's Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms and will hit shelves in September. The two mentioned the trio of General Mills cereals when they agreed on their favorite cereals on an episode of their New Heights podcast last December.
