Forestdale School December Open House

 

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold a December Open House on Thursday, December 7 from 5-7 pm at the Forestdale School, 190 School Street.  Visitors can learn from volunteers about this 19th-century, one-room schoolhouse, view local artifacts, and purchase historically themed gift items that include puzzles, Christmas ornaments, books, throws, maps, 2024 calendars, and prints.   All items highlight the town’s heritage.   

 

Visitors can also subscribe to the free NSHA monthly Newsletter or join the Association and current members can renew dues.  

 

Persons who are unable to visit can shop online at www.nsheritageassn.org. All proceeds benefit local historic preservation activities.

The Senate is blocking three bills that would have paid federal workers during the government shutdown. Senate Democrats on Thursday rejected a Republican bill that would have paid "essential workers" during the federal shutdown. Then Republicans blocked two Democratic bills that would have paid all federal workers during the shutdown, which is now in its 24th day.        The FBI is investigating NBA players and coaches caught up in illegal gambling schemes. Portland Trailblazers coach Chauncey Billups was arrested Thursday for a poker scheme involving the mafia, while Miami Heat player Terry Rozier and former coach Damon Jones were accused of using inside information to make wagers on games.        New York Attorney General Letitia James will be in court this morning to be arraigned on mortgage fraud charges. A federal grand jury in Virginia indicted the Democrat earlier this month. James says the charges are baseless and that Trump's only goal is political retribution.        Major U.S. tech companies are donating to President Trump's extravagant new White House ballroom. Trump says the 300-million dollars being spent to construct the ballroom all comes from donations. CNN says the donors include tech giants Apple, Meta, Google and Microsoft.        The L.A. Chargers blew out the Minnesota Vikings 37-10 on Thursday Night Football. Justin Herbert tossed three touchdowns in the winning effort. Sunday Night Football features the Steelers' Aaron Rodgers facing his former Green Bay Packers team from Pittsburgh.        Starbucks baristas may soon be going on strike. Starbucks Workers United says a strike authorization vote is set to begin Friday and will remain open for several days. Workers for the coffee chain are demanding more hours and higher take-home pay.
