Forestdale School December Open House

 

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold a December Open House on Thursday, December 7 from 5-7 pm at the Forestdale School, 190 School Street.  Visitors can learn from volunteers about this 19th-century, one-room schoolhouse, view local artifacts, and purchase historically themed gift items that include puzzles, Christmas ornaments, books, throws, maps, 2024 calendars, and prints.   All items highlight the town’s heritage.   

 

Visitors can also subscribe to the free NSHA monthly Newsletter or join the Association and current members can renew dues.  

 

Persons who are unable to visit can shop online at www.nsheritageassn.org. All proceeds benefit local historic preservation activities.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says hundreds more federal agents are being sent to Minnesota to support ICE and Border Patrol after days of protests over the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer. Noem told Fox News the additional personnel will help ensure safety for immigration officials amid rising tensions in Minneapolis, even as some local leaders demand the agency leave.        The Justice Department has issued a subpoena to the Federal Reserve, warning of a possible criminal indictment. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the potential indictment comes from his June Senate testimony concerning renovations to Federal Reserve office buildings. He characterized the subpoenas as the latest attempt to influence the Fed and its interest-rate decisions.        A man driving a U-Haul truck drove into a group of protesters in Los Angeles supporting protests in Iran. Los Angeles firefighters say two people were evaluated at the scene and declined treatment. Cellphone video shows the driver being punched as a group of people tried to get him out of the truck, eventually taken into custody.        A South Carolina police officer is recovering after being ambushed and shot multiple times while sitting in a patrol car in Greenville County. Authorities say the attack appeared to target law enforcement. The officer was treated and released, while the suspect was later killed in a shootout with police after fleeing the scene.        NASA is bringing the International Space Station crew home early after one astronaut fell ill in orbit. The crew member is reported to be in stable condition, but the move marks the first medical evacuation in ISS history. The four astronauts are now set to splash down off the California coast Thursday morning, weeks ahead of schedule.        The 83rd Golden Globes wrapped up Sunday at the Beverly Hilton, with Nikki Glaser hosting. Sixteen-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest winner for Best Supporting Actor on TV, and Amy Poehler took home the first-ever Best Podcast award. Hamnet won Best Motion Picture Drama, One Battle After Another was named Best Comedy or Musical, and The Pitt and The Studio won top TV series honors.
