WOONSOCKET, RI: The City of Woonsocket has announced a city-wide parking ban in effect from 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023. On-street parking is prohibited during this time to allow crews to effectively and safely clear all roads. Current and former NBA players and coaches are in hot water in connection with federal investigations into alleged illegal gambling. FBI Director Kash Patel announced investigators uncovered a illegal gambling operation as well as a sports betting rigging scheme. Miami Heat player Terry Rozier and former coach and player Damon Jones are accused of using inside information to make wagers on games, while Portland Trailblazers coach Chauncey Billups was arrested in connection with a poker scheme involving the Italian-American mafia.        A Republican-backed measure that would pay some federal workers who stayed on the job during the government shutdown will be in the hands of the Senate today. The bill is known as the Shutdown Fairness Act and would pay air traffic controllers, military members, border patrol agents and other "essential workers." Democrats are expected to block the bill as some have said the White House shouldn't get to choose which employees are considered essential and which are not.        The founder of the cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance has received a pardon from President Trump. According to a White House announcement, "Trump exercised his constitutional authority by issuing a pardon for" Changpeng Zhao, who had previously pleaded guilty to enabling money laundering while heading Binance. Zhao was sentenced to only four months in jail in April 2024, and he agreed to step down as the company's CEO.        The East Wing of the White House is being demolished to allow for construction of President Trump's new ballroom. Trump said Wednesday he was tearing down the entire East Wing to make space for his 90-thousand-square-foot ballroom. He downplayed the significance of tearing down the historic structure that held the first lady's office, calling it a "very small building" that "was never thought of as being much."        Millions of low-income citizens are set to be impacted as at least half of U.S. states plan to cut off food assistance benefits on November 1st. It comes as the government shutdown has entered its 23rd day. Some 25 states are sending out notices to people on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, that the checks won't be coming next month.        The "Stranger Things" series finale will get a theatrical release. Netflix announced the final episode will be shown in theaters and hit Netflix at the same time -- 8 p.m. Eastern on New Year's Eve. The episode titled "The Rightside Up" will be two-hours long. This will be the first time an episode of a Netflix series will also be shown in movie theaters.
