Woonsocket Economic Development Summit Kicks Off on April 25th with Free Informational and Networking Event

 

Woonsocket, R.I.: Interested in starting a business or investing in Woonsocket? Join the Department of Planning and Development for its first Economic Development Summit on Thursday, April 25 from 4-6 p.m. at Mito Japanese Steakhouse, 754 Front Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island. 

 

“This event is a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs and investors to learn about the City of Woonsocket and connect with local and state resources,” stated Woonsocket’s Planning Director, Michael Debroisse. “Startup businesses are facing a challenging environment due to high real estate prices and interest rates, but the City of Woonsocket offers a unique opportunity for commerce to prosper with its strategic location along the Rhode Island – Massachusetts border, access to affordable housing, and attractive commercial lease rates. My Department has been very active and is excited to share the various initiatives we have been working on.” 

 

Woonsocket Mayor Christopher Beauchamp stated, "This summit is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn about our economic development initiatives and to network with local and state resources, investors, city officials, and local business owners."

 

In addition to the Mayor, Council, and City Staff, representatives from Rhode Island Commerce, Woonsocket Education Center, Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, and local property owners and brokers will attend. 

 

Complimentary appetizers will be provided, and drinks will be available for purchase. Mito Japanese Steakhouse is a new Woonsocket business offering fresh Japanese sushi and hibachi, as well as Chinese cuisine.

The White House is calling for pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses across the country to be peaceful. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said it's up to university leadership to handle the demonstrators. She said the administration stands squarely against any violent rhetoric or antisemitism.       Reports say at least one deputy U.S. Marshal is dead and several more are wounded in Charlotte, North Carolina. The officers were reportedly serving a domestic violence warrant. Roads in the area have been closed and a SWAT team is on the scene.       Cleanup is underway after deadly tornadoes ripped across the U.S. heartland. Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Director Annie Mack Vest says the immediate priority is making sure tornado victims are safe. A four-month-old was one of four people killed in Oklahoma while another person lost their life in Iowa due to storm-related injuries.       Wall Street is closing higher to start the week. Stocks struggled for direction as investors weighed corporate earnings ahead of a Federal Reserve meeting. Tesla shares gained about 15 percent after the clearing a key hurdle to rolling out its self-driving technology in China.       A COVID-19 era requirement for hospitals is ending this week. According to the CDC, hospitals are no longer required to report information pertaining to admissions, occupancy and other indicators of possible system stress from respiratory diseases to federal officials. This marks another milestone in the nation's recovery from the COVID pandemic.       Taylor Swift has a record top 14 positions on the Billboard Hot 100, led by "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone. Her newest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," comes in at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Swift already held the record as the only arist to take over the Hot 100's entire top 10, after her last album "Midnights" in 2022.
