Message from Town Administrator

Gary Ezovski

We have installed the signs that are needed to accomplish the "DO NOT ENTER" condition on Old Smithfield Road, weekdays from 3 pm to 7 pm, but have them covered to allow the motoring public to take notice.  Our police department mobile message board is in use in school zones this week, but will be deployed this weekend to advise that the new traffic restriction with associated enforcement will take effect on Monday, September 11.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen [[ KIRST-jen ]] Nielsen is pledging no more free passes on immigration. That's what Nielsen told a law enforcement summit in New Orleans yesterday. Nielsen defended the Trump administration's border policies and insisted migrant children who have been separated from their parents are getting very good care.        Microsoft wants the Trump administration to end its policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the border. Microsoft said in a statement yesterday it's worked with what it called the rule of law for more than 20 years to make sure children who are refugees and immigrants can stay with their parents.        The city of Charleston, South Carolina is considering issuing an apology for its role in slavery. The city council today will discuss the proposal, which notes the city's past regulation and support of human bondage. The National Park Service says 40-percent of Africans sold as slaves in North America came through Charleston.        The Kilauea [[ kil-uh-WAY-uh ]] volcano keeps erupting on Hawaii's Big Island. The lava has been flowing for more than a month and now has formed a massive river of 21-hundred degree molten rock traveling to the sea. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed.        The Stanley Cup champions will have a new man behind the bench next season. Capitals head coach Barry Trotz announced his resignation yesterday, less than two weeks after the Caps won their first championship. Trotz and the team couldn't agree on a contract extension.       "Black Panther" is the big winner at last night's MTV Movie & TV Awards. The film snagged four awards, including best movie. "Black Panther" also scored best hero, best villain, and best performance in a movie.
