RIPTA’s Fall Service Changes Effective Saturday, August 31, 2024

 

Providence, Rhode Island - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement fall service changes effective Saturday, August 31, 2024.

RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.  

 

2024 Fall Service Changes

Routes 66 and 69 will now be seamlessly through-routed at the University of Rhode Island, eliminating the need for passenger transfers. Service adjustments have been made to enhance on-time performance. RIPTA will also implement annual changes, which include trip time adjustments to Route 67; this route will continue to be free through October 31, 2024, courtesy of Discover Newport. The following routes will be affected by fall service changes:

Weekday service has been adjusted for better on-time performance.

4 (Warwick Ave.)

Weekday service has been adjusted for better on-time performance.

31 (Cranston Street)

Weekday service has been rescheduled to operate every 20 minutes all day until 7pm, then every 25 minutes after 7pm.

51 (Charles St./Twin River/CCRI)

Weekday service has been rescheduled to operate every 40-45 minutes all day.

Saturday service has been rescheduled to operate every 30 minutes all day.

Sunday service has been rescheduled to operate every hour all day.

 

54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket)

Weekday service has been rescheduled to operate every 40-45 minutes all day.

Saturday service has been rescheduled to operate every 55 minutes all day.

Sunday service has been rescheduled to operate every hour all day.

 

56 (Chalkstone Ave.)

Weekday service has been rescheduled to operate every 20 minutes all day until 7pm, then every 25 minutes after 7pm.

 

66 (URI/CCRI Warwick)

Routes 66 and 69 will now be through-routed at URI. Passengers will no longer need to transfer between these routes. Service has been adjusted for better on-time performance.

67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina University)

Fall/Winter schedule has been reinstated with trips every 30 minutes throughout the day. Service is free through October 31, 2024, courtesy of Discover Newport.

69 (URI/Galilee)

Routes 66 and 69 will now be through-routed at URI. Passengers will no longer need to transfer between these routes. Service has been adjusted for better on-time performance.

95X (Westerly Park & Ride)

This route will no longer serve CCRI Warwick.

 

 

Passengers are strongly encouraged to check new schedules for how service changes may affect them. 

 

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is urging state residents to remain peaceful during the current immigration raids. In a public address last night, Walz said the federal agents conducting raids around Minneapolis were armed, masked, and "under-trained." Earlier in the day, state officials called for peacefulness after a Minneapolis man was shot in the leg by a federal agent.        The UN Security Council is expected to meet today to discuss the crisis unfolding in Iran. Multiple news reports say a briefing on the situation was requested by the United States. The meeting comes as over three-thousand protesters have reportedly died in Iran as authorities crack down on anti-government demonstrations.        A crew from the International Space Station has returned to Earth ahead of schedule because of a sick astronaut. NASA says the U.S.-Japanese-Russian crew from the SpaceX Crew-11 mission has splashed down safely off the coast of San Diego. It was the first time in the 25-year history of the space station that a mission was cut short due to a medical issue.        Winter storm warnings are being posted from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic as a cold front is expected to dump heavy snow across eleven states. The National Weather Service says up to six inches of snow and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour are predicted from Minnesota to Maryland, and as far south as Tennessee.        California authorities are reporting the state's largest ever outbreak of mushroom poisoning. The California Department of Public Health says 35 people have been poisoned by the death cap mushroom since November. People foraging for mushrooms are being warned that a single bite of the death cap mushroom could cause "significant toxicity."        Over one-point-five-million customers of Verizon went without service on Wednesday. The widespread telecommunications outage lasted for around seven hours, and was reported in cities from New York to Houston. Service came back late Wednesday, and Verizon said it plans to provide "account credits" to customers affected by the outage.        The New York Giants are reportedly hiring former Ravens coach John Harbaugh as their next leader. ESPN says the Giants are working to finalize an agreement to make Harbaugh their next head coach, and that contract numbers are still being negotiated
