Pawtucket woman charged with child abuse and assaulting police officers

 

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. 

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Pawtucket woman has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with second-degree child abuse and assaulting police officers following her arrest on June 26, 2023 by Pawtucket Police.

On March 19, 2024, the Office of the Attorney General charged Yaritza Acevedo (age 35), by way of criminal information, with one count of second-degree child abuse, two counts of simple assault, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct.

As alleged in the criminal information, on June 26, 2023, Pawtucket Police responded to a report of child abuse. When officers arrived on scene, they determined there was probable cause to arrest the defendant. When they attempted to do so, the defendant resisted arrest and kicked the officers before they placed her in a police cruiser.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on April 17, 2024 in Providence County Superior Court.

 

 

President Trump is confirming a possible swap of American Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine drones. The topic was raised during a press event at the White House between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, who said he'd like to get the missiles that can travel over a thousand miles to fight the Russians. Zelensky told reporters he'd swap Ukranian drones for the Tomahawks, to which Trump said the U.S. "is interested" in the drones.        Former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of mishandling of classified documents. He surrendered to federal authorities after being indicted on 18 counts in Maryland this morning. A vocal critic of Trump, Bolton says that the indictment is politically motivated.        The nation's midsection and much of the northeast are bracing for widespread showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service says storm system is likely to produce heavy rainfall as it moves eastward from the Rockies. Forecasters warn of the risk for large hail, damaging winds tornadoes and flash flooding from the Ozarks into the Mississippi Valley on Saturday.        A federal judge is lifting travel restrictions for Palestinian activist and former Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil. His bail conditions previously restricted him to New York, New Jersey and a few other places while he awaits court proceedings related to the Trump Administration's efforts to deport him. According to the Courthouse News, a judge this week lifted restrictions, allowing Khalil to move freely about the country for public speaking engagements and advocacy work.        The Los Angeles Dodgers can punch their ticket to the World Series tonight. The Dodgers will host the Milwaukee Brewers for game four of the NLCS at 8:38 p.m. eastern. Before that, the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays will face off in game five of the ALCS at 6:08 p.m. Toronto evened up the series last night at two-games-a-piece.        "The Black Phone 2" is off to a scary good start at the box office. The sequel film starring Ethan Hawke as a serial killer known as the Grabber made two-point-six-million-dollars Thursday night. It's expected to make 23 to 29-million in its first weekend in theaters. Meanwhile, the comedy "Good Fortune" starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen made 725-thousand-dollars from previews and is projected to bring in between six and eight-million.
