Pawtucket woman charged with child abuse and assaulting police officers

 

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. 

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Pawtucket woman has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with second-degree child abuse and assaulting police officers following her arrest on June 26, 2023 by Pawtucket Police.

On March 19, 2024, the Office of the Attorney General charged Yaritza Acevedo (age 35), by way of criminal information, with one count of second-degree child abuse, two counts of simple assault, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct.

As alleged in the criminal information, on June 26, 2023, Pawtucket Police responded to a report of child abuse. When officers arrived on scene, they determined there was probable cause to arrest the defendant. When they attempted to do so, the defendant resisted arrest and kicked the officers before they placed her in a police cruiser.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on April 17, 2024 in Providence County Superior Court.

 

 

President Trump has revealed his healthcare plan. In a video posted on social media Thursday, Trump said his so-called "Great Healthcare Plan" aims to lower costs and give money to the American people so they can buy their own coverage. This comes as subsidies for the Affordable Healthcare Act expired at the beginning of the year, raising premium prices for millions of Americans. Around one-point-four-million fewer Americans have signed up for ACA plans this year compared to the same time last year.        Federal agents used tear gas against protesters in Minneapolis today. The protest was in front of an ICE facility in the city where officers were lined up, blocking the front entrance. Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino confirms there was an arrest. Protests have continued in the city since the deadly shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent.        The White House says President Trump is successfully tackling affordability in the U.S. Today, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt touted the Core Price Index showing inflation in check, lower gas prices, and expected bigger tax returns. Leavitt said Trump is also addressing soaring home prices with the purchase of mortgage bonds.        The Senate has passed three spending bills aimed at funding the government for fiscal year 2026. The second three-bill minibus passed 82 to 15, including measures to fund the Commerce, Justice, Energy and Interior departments over the next eight months. Congress has now approved six funding measures, with another six expected in the next two weeks.        California Governor Gavin Newsom says he won't extradite a doctor to Louisiana after that doctor allegedly mailed a woman abortion pills. Newsom says a 2022 executive order gives him the legal authority to refuse the extradition request. The San Francisco-based doctor mailed the woman abortion medications that were approved by the FDA in 2000. Abortion is illegal in Louisiana, including in cases of rape or incest. Louisiana's Attorney General called Newsom's decision "appalling." Newsom said he will not allow doctors to be punished by those he calls "extremist politicians."        President Trump is congratulating the Florida Panthers on their Stanley Cup win last year. While speaking at the White House Thursday, Trump congratulated the team for denying the Cup to Canada for the 32nd straight year. The Panthers became back-to-back NHL champions after beating Edmonton in six games last June.
