Democrats emerged victorious in Tuesday night's key elections. Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani will be New York City's next mayor, the first Muslim to ever hold that position. Democrat Abigail Spanberger won the Virginia governor's race, and Democrat Mikie [[ MY-key ]] Sherrill won the governor's race in New Jersey.        California voters have spoken and Proposition 50 has passed. The measure redrawing congressional maps to favor Democrats was approved on Tuesday. Prop 50 was an effort led by Governor Gavin Newsom that's designed to let Democrats win more seats in Congress.        The federal government shutdown is now in day 36 making it the longest in U.S. history. As the fallout continues, from air travel woes to loss of food assistance benefits, some senators are hopeful the shutdown could end this week. Democrats are holding firm on demands to save health care subsidies that keep insurance premiums down for millions, while Republicans have refused to negotiate until the government is reopened. Republican Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin said that some Democrats may be willing to vote for a short-term GOP bill that would open the government through November 21st.        The Supreme Court will hear arguments today in a fast-tracked case over the legality of President Trump's sweeping tariffs. The court's decision could have massive implications for American consumers and businesses, the economy and presidential authority.        The FDA is issuing a recall for America's top-selling cholesterol-lowering drug. The recall involves more than 140-thousand bottles of Atorvastatin [[ uh-TOR-vuh-stat-in ]] calcium tablets. That action was initiated by Ascend Laboratories, based in New Jersey, which sold the pills imported from India, under its label. There were problems with the way the tablets dissolve. Multiple strengths of Atorvastatin are affected including, 10, 20, 40 and 80 milligram bottles.        The Mega Millions jackpot is now up to 843-million dollars. There was no grand prize winner in Tuesday night's big drawing so the next chance to strike it rich will come around on Friday.
