­­­­­Governor McKee Issues Proclamation Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month
 
 

PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Dan McKee today issued a proclamation designating June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

 

“Rhode Island stands with the LGBTQ+ community this month and every month. In June, we take the time to celebrate and honor the contributions that the LGBTQ+ community has made to the Ocean State,” said Governor McKee. “Diversity is what makes us all stronger. We will continue to push back against intolerance to ensure all individuals are safe and welcome in Rhode Island.”

 

“With LGBTQ+ rights under attack in states across the nation, welcoming Pride Month is more important than ever. Today’s celebration is our promise that Rhode Island is and always will be a refuge from persecution,” said Lt. Governor Sabina Matos.

 

The State House will be illuminated with Pride colors on June 1 and from June 16 through June 18 for Pride Weekend.

Senators plan to hold another vote to end the federal government shutdown, now in its third week. However, there's little sign of progress toward funding the government with both Democrats and Republicans seemingly dug in. House Democrats are also meeting today to discuss how to move forward.        Israel says it will keep pressuring Hamas to return all the bodies of dead Israeli hostages. All 20 living hostages were returned Monday as part of a U.S.-back ceasefire deal. But the Palestinian militant group only returned four of the 28 dead hostages, sparking anger among Israelis.        The president of Argentina will be greeted by President Trump at the White House today. Javier [[ hah-vee-air ]] Milei [[ mee-lay ]] is an ally of Trump's and their meeting comes as Argentina deals with economic distress and upcoming elections that could thwart Milei's plans for economic reforms. Treasury Scott Bessent recently indicated the U.S. could aid Argentina and provide stability to its markets.        Flooding in Southwest Alaska caused by the remnants of a major typhoon has left at least one person dead, with two others still missing. Alaska State Troopers announced last night that a woman had been found dead. It's the first death confirmed in connection with the powerful weekend storm that left over a thousand people displaced.        More than 150 unvaccinated South Carolina children are in quarantine after being exposed to measles. The children, from two schools in Spartanburg, will miss class for 21 days, the period of potential transmission. South Carolina is the latest state to experience a measles outbreak this year and cases across the U.S. have reached the highest level in 30 years.        The Seattle Mariners are now just two wins away from the heading to the World Series. They beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-3 in the second game of the American League Championship Series last night. Meanwhile, the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers drew first blood against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 2-1 win.
