DISPOSAL OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE, ELECTRONICS AND DOCUMENT SHREDDNG ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29th


WOONSOCKET, RI; Mayor Daniel M. Gendron announced that on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 8:00 a.m.- 12 NOON, the City of Woonsocket will be holding an ECO DEPOT COLLECTION DAY at the City’s Recycling Center located at 1117 River Street where Rhode Island residents may safely dispose of household hazardous waste (e.g., antifreeze, waste oil, old paint) and electronics. Document shredding services will also be available for *Woonsocket residents.

No appointments are necessary for electronics disposal or
* Shredding services.

For hazardous waste, an appointment is necessary. An appointment may be made via www.ecodepotri.org or by calling 401-942-1430, ext. 3241


Mayor Gendron said, “This is a great opportunity for residents to safely rid themselves of unwanted items that have accumulated over time.” He also thanked Interim Solid Waste Coordinator Elizabeth Kerrigan for collaborating with Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation in putting this worthwhile event together. He praised the city’s team of Department of Public Works.

 

 

The Trump administration will partially fund SNAP food-assistance benefits as the federal government shutdown continues. In a court filing Monday, the administration said the money would cover "50-percent of eligible households' current allotments." This comes after two separate rulings last week ordered the Trump administration to tap emergency funds that will cover some of the SNAP program.        New York City voters choose a new mayor today. Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani is leading in multiple polls over former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. President Trump is warning federal funding could be at risk if Mamdani wins, who he calls a "communist." Current mayor Eric Adams dropped out and endorsed Cuomo. More than 735-thousand early ballots are already in -- more than four times the early turnout from 2021.        California's top elections official says DOJ lawyers can watch California's special election, but that's it. Secretary of State Shirley Weber says the Justice Department has the same rights as any other voter to observe, but cannot interfere or intimidate. The Trump administration says it's sending federal monitors ahead of the Prop 50 vote -- a Newsom-backed push to gain more Democratic seats in Congress -- and local officials say they'll be watching the DOJ right back.        A former Minneapolis police officer convicted in the George Floyd murder case is now out of prison. Tou Thao [[ Too-Tao ]] was released yesterday after serving concurrent federal sentences for violating Floyd's civil rights and aiding and abetting manslaughter. He'll still be under state and federal supervision for the next two years.        A new report says America's richest billionaires are getting even richer. According to Oxfam America, the nation's top ten billionaires added nearly 700 billion dollars to their net worth over the past year, pushing their total wealth to two-and-a-half trillion.        Game 7 of the World Series delivered baseball's biggest TV audience in nearly 10 years. Preliminary Nielsen numbers show nearly 26 million people watched the Dodgers win their second straight title Saturday, the most since a Game 7 back in 2017. Overall, the series averaged just under 15 million viewers per game.
