YARD WASTE

 

Residents are reminded that curbside pick-up of yard waste (grass clippings, small branches, weeds, etc.) ends the week of June 11th on your normal collection day.

 

The drop-off site in Blackstone, MA, off Canal Street (North Smithfield) will continue to be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, for those residents having the appropriate yard waste sticker (TAN for 2018); all residential properties in the City of Woonsocket are included in the yard waste drop-off program.  Stickers can be obtained, for a $25.00 fee, at City Hall in the Department of Public Works, Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 4 pm.  Proper identification and vehicle registration is required.  Commercial vehicle registrations are excluded from this program.

 

Residents are reminded that it is illegal to throw yard waste in the household waste collection carts and/or recycle carts.

 

Curbside yard waste collection will resume in October.

President Trump says Democratic socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani should be nicer to him. Trump called Mamdani's victory speech "angry," especially towards him. The president added that he felt Mamdani should be nicer, because he's the one who has to approve a lot of things for the nation's largest city.        Some Senate Republicans say they think a deal to end the government shutdown may be close. The shutdown has been going on for 37 days and is the longest in history. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said yesterday that a mini-funding package that could get bipartisan support is nearing completion. He met with Democratic negotiators Tuesday night in an effort to find a solution.        United Airlines will refund customers who now don't want to fly because of impending federal flight restrictions. The FAA is cutting ten percent of flights in U.S. airspace starting tomorrow morning, due to air traffic controller staffing issues during the ongoing federal government shutdown.        The Supreme Court is considering if President Trump's tariffs are legal. The justices heard arguments yesterday after the high court agreed to fast track the case. The tariffs will stay in place until the court makes a decision. The president did not attend after initially saying he was considering the unprecedented move of doing so.        Maryland plans to take the Trump Administration to court over its decision to stop the relocation of the FBI's headquarters. The General Services Administration announced that the agency's headquarters would be relocated to Greenbelt, Maryland, in 2023. Those plans were halted when President Trump took office, and a decision to move the FBI to a building in DC was announced earlier this year.        A Thursday Night Football matchup between AFC West rivals kicks off NFL week 10. The division-leading Broncos are gearing up to battle the Las Vegas Raiders from Denver tonight.
