City of Woonsocket to Hold Veterans Day Observance on Monday, November 11, 2024

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I: Mayor Christopher Beauchamp announced today the City of
Woonsocket along with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket (UVC) will be holding
the annual Veterans Day Observance on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at
the United Veterans Council Armed Forces Park on Davison Avenue. Members of the
community are invited to attend the observance to recognize the contributions of our
veterans both past and present, and to show appreciation of their service.
WOON 1240 AM Radio will broadcast this event live. In the event of inclement weather,
the ceremony will be moved to City Hall in Harris Hall. Any change in location will be aired
on WOON and/or WNRI.

 

 

Hurricane Melissa is hammering Jamaica. It's one of the most powerful hurricane landfalls on record in the Atlantic Basin. Life-threatening flooding, devastating winds and storm surge are all ongoing as Melissa crosses the western part of the island nation. It's currently packing maximum sustained winds of 150 miles per hour, making Melissa a high powered Category 4 hurricane.        The Trump administration is facing legal action from a group Democratic states and Washington, D.C. as millions are set to lose food assistance this weekend. This as the federal government shutdown stretches to the four-week mark. On Saturday, funding will run out for food aid programs for more than 40-million Americans. Meanwhile, flight delays are starting to pile up as air traffic control towers deal with staffing issues.        House Republicans are calling on the Justice Department to investigate the Biden administration's autopen use. In a report released on Tuesday, the GOP-led House Oversight Committee said despite past presidents using autopens, former President Biden was "cognitively impaired" and his staff took advantage with a "laissez faire" approach.        Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his military to carry out powerful strikes in Gaza. That's according to a statement from his office. Earlier, Netanyahu had accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire after hostage remains were identified yesterday as the same of a deceased hostage who was previously recovered from Gaza in 2023.        PayPal and OpenAI are joining forces. The fintech company announced Tuesday that it will allow users to make purchases through ChatGPT starting next year. It will also allow merchants to use the same platform. The move makes PayPal the first digital wallet in ChatGPT.        World Series game four is tonight following last night's marathon 18-inning game. The Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-to-5 thanks to a Freddie Freeman walkoff home run. Tonight will see Shohei Ohtani take the mound for the Dodgers while Shane Bieber will get the start for Toronto.
