New York Attorney General Letitia James has pleaded not guilty to mortgage fraud charges. A federal grand jury in Virginia indicted the Democrat earlier in October. James has said the charges are "baseless" and that Trump's only goal is political retribution. James and President Trump have traded public insults for years, especially after the Democrat won a civil fraud case against Trump.        The government shutdown is in its 24th day. The Senate is adjourned until Monday after failing to pass spending legislation for a 12th time earlier this week. Democrats are calling on Republicans to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies before they expire at the end of the year. Republicans say they won't negotiate until the shutdown is ended.        Alaska Airlines has resumed flights after a full ground stop Thursday night. In a post on X, the airline said the reason for the temporary stop was an IT outage. The ground stop was extended to the regional airline Horizon Air, based in the Seattle area. More than 220 flights were canceled during the eight-hour stop.        The U.S.says it has conducted another strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean Sea. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the overnight strike in a post on X this morning. He said the boat was operated by Tren de Agua, which has been named a Designated Terrorist Organization.        Baltimore officials say an AI security system at a high school mistook a bag of chips for a gun, leading to a student being handcuffed. It happened Monday night at Kenwood High School. Taki Allen said while he waited with friends after football practice, he ate a bag of chips before crumpling it up and putting it in his pocket. He said about 20 minutes later cops approached him and told him to get down on the ground before cuffing him. Police told Allen an AI gun detection system used by the school had detected he had a gun and showed him the picture, which he said showed him holding a Doritos bag.        There's three college football games on the schedule tonight. North Texas will take on Charlotte at 7 p.m. eastern in an American Athletic Conference contest. At 7:30 p.m., Virginia Tech will host California for an ACC battle. Lastly in the Mountain West Conference, Nevada will host Boise State at 10 p.m. eastern.
