Free Fun Days for Woonsocket families to be held August 16 and September 21

 

A free FunDay will be held Friday, August 16, from 11-3 in the World War II Veterans Memorial State Park, Social Street, Woonsocket. The FunDay is geared towards Woonsocket families with children and will be held rain or shine.

Sponsored by the Hamlet Resource Hub, the day will include games, arts and crafts, raffles, performers, and resource information about the Hub and its services. A free hot dog lunch will be available; bus transportation to the park from various locations in the city will be available.

A second FunDay sponsored by The Hamlet Resource Hub will be held Saturday, September 21 from 11-3 at a location to be announced.

The FunDays, made possible by a generous grant from the Rhode Island Foundation, are opportunities to build community, showcase local parks, and highlight local resources.

The Hamlet Resource Hub, a partnership of services located at 24 Hamlet Avenue, includes members St. James Food Bank, New Beginnings Meal Site, Coat of Many Colors Clothing Bank, St. Mark Kitchen Ministry, Community Care Alliance, and We’re Just People, a Friday lunch provider.   

More federal immigration agents are headed to Minnesota as tensions remain after an ICE-involved shooting last week. Protests broke out after Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent. Federal officials say Good was attempting to harm the agent with her vehicle, while officials like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz disputed that claim.        President Trump says any country that does business with Iran will face tariffs. Trump posted, "Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25-percent on any and all business being done with the United States of America." His order comes as violent anti-government protests in the country have continued over the ongoing economic crisis there.        President Trump says might keep ExxonMobil out of Venezuela's oil revival after the company's CEO called the country "uninvestable." Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump criticized Exxon's response during a meeting with U.S. oil executives. Exxon's CEO Darren Woods said legal and commercial reforms are needed before his company would commit.        Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is wants to expand the country's military-industrial complex. He stopped at SpaceX's Starbase in Texas Monday as part of his "Arsenal of Freedom" tour. He said the U.S. must "win" the competition for 21st century technological supremacy.        The Texans defeated the Steelers 30-6 on Monday Night Football from Pittsburgh and advanced to the Divisional round of the playoffs for the third straight season. Houston will stay on the road to play New England. The Bills are also traveling for their second matchup in-a-row after taking down the Jaguars on Sunday and will square off against the Broncos in Denver.        Today marks the 30th anniversary a kidnapping that led to the development of the nationwide AMBER Alert system. Amber Hagerman was abducted in Texas while riding bikes with her brother in 1996, and her body was found four days later. President George W. Bush signed the AMBER Alert into law nationally in 2003.
