Free Fun Days for Woonsocket families to be held August 16 and September 21

 

A free FunDay will be held Friday, August 16, from 11-3 in the World War II Veterans Memorial State Park, Social Street, Woonsocket. The FunDay is geared towards Woonsocket families with children and will be held rain or shine.

Sponsored by the Hamlet Resource Hub, the day will include games, arts and crafts, raffles, performers, and resource information about the Hub and its services. A free hot dog lunch will be available; bus transportation to the park from various locations in the city will be available.

A second FunDay sponsored by The Hamlet Resource Hub will be held Saturday, September 21 from 11-3 at a location to be announced.

The FunDays, made possible by a generous grant from the Rhode Island Foundation, are opportunities to build community, showcase local parks, and highlight local resources.

The Hamlet Resource Hub, a partnership of services located at 24 Hamlet Avenue, includes members St. James Food Bank, New Beginnings Meal Site, Coat of Many Colors Clothing Bank, St. Mark Kitchen Ministry, Community Care Alliance, and We’re Just People, a Friday lunch provider.   

President Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House shortly. It's part of Trump's ongoing effort to end the years-long Russia-Ukraine war. On Thursday, Trump said he had a "very productive" phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and told reporters the two will be meeting in Hungary soon. Trump also said he plans to discuss the call with Zelensky.        Former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton is pleading not guilty to his federal charges. Bolton was indicted yesterday on federal charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents. He surrendered to federal authorities in Maryland this morning. A vocal critic of Trump, Bolton says that the indictment is politically motivated.        The federal government shutdown is now in its 17th day with the Senate not set to vote again until next. Thursday's vote was the tenth time lawmakers have attempted to pass the a spending measure that's Republican-backed and has already made it through the House. Democrats continue to hold firm in wanting to see healthcare subsidies preserved as a sticking point for any conversation about making a deal to end the shutdown.        Several people have been arrested at a protest outside a Chicago-area ICE facility. Demonstrators gathered outside the ICE facility in suburban Broadview. Back and forth shoving between protesters and ICE agents could be seen. Around 50 protesters remained about an hour and a half after the demonstration first started.        Police in Ocean City, Maryland say they were a bit taken aback by the overwhelming response to a call for volunteers to smoke weed in front of them. The request for adults to take part in the smoking session at the upcoming Maryland Highway Safety Office's DUI Conference went out on social media earlier this week. Registration closed within hours as folks came out of the woodwork to volunteer.        "The Black Phone 2" is off to a scary good start at the box office. The sequel film starring Ethan Hawke as a serial killer known as the Grabber made two-point-six-million-dollars Thursday night. It's expected to make 23 to 29-million in its first weekend in theaters.
