Hurricane Melissa is hitting Jamaica. It's one of the most powerful hurricane landfalls on record in the Atlantic Basin. Life-threatening flooding, devastating winds and storm surge are all ongoing as Melissa crosses the western part of the island nation.        The Trump administration is being sued by a group of Democratic states and Washington, D.C. as millions are set to lose food assistance on Saturday. Funding will run out November 1st for food aid programs for more than 40-million Americans as the government shutdown drags on. Meanwhile, flight delays are starting to pile up as air traffic control towers deal with staffing issues.        President Trump is in Japan for another stop of his nearly week-long visit to Asia. Earlier today, he delivered remarks to American troops aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in Yokosuka, Japan where he touted record military spending and said he's supporting an across-the-board pay raise for "every sailor and servicemember in the United States Armed Forces." Those same troops could end up going without pay by the middle of next month due to the government shutdown.        Vice President JD Vance is indicating that troops will be paid during the government shutdown, at least for now. Vance told reporters after a Senate Republican policy lunch that over one million military service members will get paid at the end of this week, and he continued to blame Democrats for the shutdown. Pentagon officials have identified eight-billion-dollars in unspent research, development and technology funds to redirect to pay for troops, however, some lawmakers have questioned the president's legal authority to redirect the funds.        Nvidia [[ in-VID-ee-uh ]] is now producing its fastest AI chips in Arizona. The tech-giant's CEO told a conference audience Tuesday the Blackwell graphics processing units are being produced in a facility in Phoenix. They were previously solely manufactured in Taiwan.        World Series game four is tonight following last night's marathon 18-inning game. The Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-to-5 thanks to a Freddie Freeman walkoff home run. Tonight will see Shohei Ohtani take the mound for the Dodgers while Shane Bieber will get the start for Toronto.
