The North Smithfield Heritage Assn and VFW Post 6342 will honor David Schnorr during a brief flag ceremony at 1000 on Saturday, July 6, at the Memorial Town Building, 1 Main Street, North Smithfield.

David Schnorr was born October 6, 1950, and raised in Slatersville Rhode Island by his parents, Donald and Jeanette Schnorr.

He graduated from North Smithfield High School in 1968. After high school, he worked for his father‘s company, Don Schnor Excavating.

In 1969, David enlisted in the army and went to basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey. From basic training, he was initially stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas, and then in Germany.

In 1972 David was discharged from the army.

Subsequently, David became a North Smithfield police officer.  In May 1973, he married Debbie Lightowler.  They went on to have two children, Heidi and David Schnorr, who also were born and raised in North Smithfield. While bringing up his children, David coached his daughter's and son's soccer and hockey teams.  David retired from the police department after 25 years of service to the town of North Smithfield. He then worked for Hood's Construction and later the resource recovery center in Johnston, where he retired.

David has four grandchildren, Hannah, Ryan, Meghan, and Ryleigh who he loved dearly. He continued living in Slatersville right up until the time he caught COVID-19 in January 2021. David passed away on February 10, 2021.
