RIPTA Launches Safe Streets for All Statewide Survey

Survey Results Will Guide Safe Streets Action Plans for 32 Cities and Towns Across Rhode Island

 

Providence, Rhode Island – The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is launching a summer-long public engagement campaign for its RI Safe Streets for All (SS4A) project. As part of this project, RIPTA is conducting a statewide survey to collect input and feedback regarding transportation safety. The survey is open now through September 30, 2024, and is available in English and 10 other languages. The survey contains multiple choice and open-ended questions and the ability to tag locations of safety challenges on a map and can be completed online here.

 

"Safety is a top priority for everyone traveling in Rhode Island, and this initiative will help make walking, biking and taking transit safer for Rhode Islanders,” said interim Chief Executive Officer Christopher Durand. “I encourage all Rhode Islanders to participate in this survey and share their valuable feedback to help us build safer streets for everyone."

 

Through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Safe Streets and Roads for All program, RIPTA secured funding to support the state and participating municipalities in planning for infrastructure improvements that will improve traffic safety and prevent roadway accidents. The SS4A planning project will result in municipal Safety Action Plans for 32 participating communities and a statewide Safety Action Plan that will provide a roadmap to reduce roadway fatalities and serious injuries for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and public transit users. The project will develop recommendations to effectively implement a tangible version of the Safe Streets for All mission. This effort will encompass shifting safety needs, known and emerging areas of safety improvement, identification of priority projects, and will help position the State of Rhode Island and its municipalities for further federal implementation funding.

Vance will appear alongside Erika Kirk, the late conservative activist's wife and the new CEO of TPUSA.        The Supreme Court won't issue a ruling on President Trump's National Guard troop deployment to Chicago until next month. On Wednesday, the high court asked for additional briefing before it makes its ruling. The deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago was blocked earlier this month by a federal court. The Supreme Court indicated it won't issue a ruling until November 17th at the earliest.        Hurricane Melissa is heading to the Bahamas. Melissa brought devastating flooding to Cuba after slamming Jamaica as a Level 5 Hurricane on Tuesday. Melissa's winds have since died down to 90 miles per hour, making it a Category 1 storm, but it still packs a lot of power.        The crown jewels stolen from the Louvre have not been recovered since the brazen Paris heist ten days ago. French officials say two suspects have admitted their involvement and remain in custody. Two other suspects remain on the loose in connection with the theft that saw jewels worth millions taken from the museum.        The World Series has turned into a dogfight, with Game Five on tap tonight. The L.A. Dodgers host the Toronto Blue Jays, tied two-games apiece. On the mound, it will be a rematch of the Game One pitching matchup, with Blake Snell facing Toronto rookie Trey Yesavage.
