“Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott has led Rhode Island’s Department of Health through unimaginably trying times, and I am grateful for her thoughtful, pragmatic leadership. She has been a steadfast and trusted resource for all of us.

“While the pandemic is far from over, Dr. Alexander-Scott has set forth the framework to ensure that our state is on the path to recovery. I talked to her this morning and expressed my gratitude for her great work throughout the pandemic. I encouraged her to stay.

“In addition to her exceptional work during this crisis, Dr. Alexander-Scott has been steadfast in her advocacy to eliminate health disparities that disproportionally impact some of our communities.

“Dr. Alexander-Scott has led our state with compassion, confidence and dignity. She has been a calming influence, and Rhode Island is a healthier place because of her. I wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”

President Trump will meet Ukraine President Zelensky at the White House after what Trump called a "productive" call with Russian President Putin. Today's meeting is part of Trump's ongoing effort to end the years-long Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said he plans to discuss the call with Zelensky, and will again meet with Putin, this time in Hungary in two weeks.        John Bolton says he's innocent of the federal charges levied against him. Bolton was indicted yesterday on charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents. He surrendered to federal authorities in Maryland this morning. A vocal critic of Trump, Bolton says that the indictment is politically motivated. A trial date has not been set.        Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani was front and center in the first New York City mayor's debate. The clear-cut front-runner battled independent candidate and former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Most political watchers says Mamdani took some hits, but nothing that would erase his double-digit lead in the polls.        People in central and northeastern portion of the country could be facing a potent fall cross-country storm that's expected to bring severe weather. The storm will likely cover 40 states, with the Midwest forecast to see heavy rain by Friday, while the Ozarks and Mississippi Valley will also face a severe weather threat before the system reaches the Northeast by Sunday. Tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail are all possible, but the storm's intensity will ultimately be determined by the amount of daytime heating.        Halloween spending this year is expected to be a record-breaker. According to the National Retail Federation, Halloween spending is expected to reach 13-point-one-billion dollars in 2025. That's up from eleven-point-six-billion dollars from last year. This year's total includes three-point-nine-billion dollars on candy and four-point-three-billion dollars on costumes.        The first team could reach the World Series tonight. The L.A.
