State and local elections are being held across the country today and they could be a barometer of the 2026 midterms. In New York City's race for mayor, Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani maintains his commanding lead in the polls over Independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. In California, voters will decide whether to re-draw their congressional maps that will probably mean five more seats in Congress for Democrats.        The White House is flying flags at half staff following the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney. His family announced his passing today at the age of 84, saying in a statement that he died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. Cheney served as the nation's 46th vice president under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.        The White House says SNAP benefits will be paid in compliance with court orders. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified a Truth Social post made by President Trump this morning saying the benefits wouldn't be paid until Democrats reopen the government. She said the president was referring to not wanting to tap into an emergency fund any further to pay SNAP benefits.        The Supreme Court will take up a case over President Trump's tariffs tomorrow. The high court scheduled oral arguments for November 5th after it agreed to fast track the case. The tariffs will stay in place until the court makes a decision.        The wealth of the richest Americans has been growing by leaps and bounds. The nation's top ten billionaires have collectively added nearly 700-billion-dollars to their fortunes in the past year, driving their overall worth to two-and-a-half trillion dollars. That's according to a new report from the non-profit Oxfam America published on Monday.        Actor Jonathan Bailey has been named People magazine's 2025 Sexiest Man Alive. The announcement was made Monday night on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," with the 37-year-old British actor calling it the honor of a lifetime. He's the first openly gay man ever to hold the title of People's Sexiest Man.
