Message from Town Administrator

Gary Ezovski

On June 18 the town council will hold a public hearing on the budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year. I want to encourage awareness of the budget that I have offered as well as that submitted by the budget committee. A copy of the document detailing each of those budgets will be posted to the town's website today.  Those recommendations have already yielded concern from some over the recommendations for schools. I am hoping residents with interest will take time to go through the details and advise if they have any questions. In this note next week, I will offer additional information to explain some key reasons for my recommendations. One detail wasn’t clear in yesterday’s Valley Breeze article. The level of spending in my recommendation and the budget committee's proposal will already result in a 2.8% tax increase. If there are questions before then, please contact me by any means that work for you.

House Republicans are pushing an immigration bill vote back until next week. The compromise bill was scheduled to be voted on today and then it was delayed until tomorrow. President Trump has suggested that he will sign either measure, but doubts either will pass the closely-divided Senate.        North Korea doesn't have any plans to dismantle its nuclear weapons program, according to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. Mattis says he isn't aware of any steps North Korea is taking to start taking apart its nuclear weapons or missiles and he doesn't expect it in the near future. Last week, after the historic summit with Kim Jong Un, President Trump said that the nation either had or would soon begin destroying a missile engine testing site.        Sara Netanyahu, the wife of the Israeli Prime Minister, is being charged with fraud. She was indicted in Jerusalem today for alleged fraud involving 100-thousand-dollars worth of meal expenses at the Prime Minister's residence. Mrs. Netanyahu allegedly instructed her staff to order meals from gourmet restaurants between 2010 and 2013, going against rules barring the residence from ordering outside meals when there's a cook on staff.        A gorilla named Koko who learned sign language has died. The 46-year-old western lowland gorilla died in her sleep Tuesday at the Gorilla Foundation preserve in California. Koko gained worldwide fame for her ability to communicate.       Childhood viruses that always remain in the human body may be linked to Alzheimer's disease. The study published in the journal "Neuron" found that two common strains of the herpes virus were more abundant in the brains of those who ended up dying from Alzheimer's. Those viruses affect almost 90-percent of all children.
