NORTH SMITHFIELD DPW FACILITIES-
STORM CLEANUP

Good afternoon,

The tree damage from the weekend storm has obviously created a large volume of material that must be disposed of.  Our Department of Public Works is planning to help with that by making a dumpster available at the DPW facility.  The yard is open to receive that material today and tomorrow for anyone who wants to beat the snow that will be hitting us Wednesday and Thursday.

Since the focus of DPW work on Wednesday must be to be ready for the snowstorm, we ask that no such material be brought there on Wednesday or Thursday.  DPW will continue to receive material on Friday and Saturday.  If additional dates seem necessary, we will make an appropriate announcement.

Also, though our DPW personnel will not enter any private property to remove trees, or even to collect branches, they are prepared to collect material at the curb line of your home.  You will be making it easy for us to handle your branches if you leave them in long lengths so they can be chipped.  Please contact DPW at 767-2200 extension 348 to make them aware that you have material to pick up.

Again, the snowstorm that is forecast for Wednesday into Thursday will force our focus on keeping roads open, so we will appreciate your understanding of the schedule detailed above.  Safety in the DPW yard is paramount.

The FAA is reducing the number of flights in U.S. airspace starting Friday morning. It's a result of staffing shortages during the federal government shutdown. FAA administrator Bryan Bedford announced Wednesday the agency will reduce air traffic by ten percent at 40 high-volume airports if there's no deal to end the shutdown.        The legality of President Trump's tariffs is now in the hands of the Supreme Court. The justices heard arguments today after the high court agreed to fast track the case. The tariffs will stay in place until the court makes a decision.        Pope Leo says it's time for "deep reflection" after seeing that Homeland Security agents refused to allow clergy into a Chicago-area ICE facility to give detainees communion. While in Miami yesterday to discuss his economic agenda, Trump boasted once again that America is "the hottest country in the world" because of his policies. He said the U.S. is getting 21-trillion-dollars of investments this year, largely due to his tariffs.        Sean "Diddy" Combs reportedly thinks he'll get a presidential pardon in the New Year. According to TMZ, the imprisoned mogul has been boasting to other inmates about an alleged pardon from President Trump in 2026 and also claimed he will "take care of them" after he gets out of prison.        Both the Powerball and the Mega Millions jackpots are climbing. There was no grand prize winner in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing so that jumps to 467-million dollars, with a cash option of nearly 221-million. And then there's Mega Millions, with an estimated 843-million dollars up for grabs in the next drawing on Friday.
