City Council Special Meeting - Sep 26 2024

Inflation is up slightly less than expected. The annual inflation rate hit three percent in September, according to numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics out this morning. That was an increase of three-tenths of a percent for the month.        New York Attorney General Letitia James is set to be arraigned on mortgage fraud charges soon. A federal grand jury in Virginia indicted the Democrat earlier in October. James says the charges are "baseless" and that Trump's only goal is political retribution. James and President Trump have traded public insults for years, especially after the Democrat won a civil fraud case against Trump.        The government shutdown is now in its 24th day. Senate Democrats on Thursday rejected a Republican bill that would have paid "essential workers" during the federal shutdown. Then Republicans blocked two Democratic bills that would have paid all federal workers during the shutdown.        The Trump administration says it conducted another strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean Sea. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the boat was operated by Tren de Agua, which has been named a Designated Terrorist Organization. All six people on board were killed.        Social Security benefits will go up in January. The Social Security Administration announced both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income will receive a cost-of-living adjustment of two-point-eight-percent. That means Social Security retirement benefits will go up by an average of around 56-dollars per month.        Week Eight of the NFL season is underway. The Los Angeles Chargers crushed the Minnesota Vikings 37-10 on Thursday Night Football at SoFi Stadium. Justin Herbert completed 18-of-25 passes for 227 yards, three touchdowns and one interception to help LA get back into the win column.
