Early voting will begin on Wednesday, October 19th, through Monday, November 7th, 2022, at Town Hall, 83 Greene Street, for the General Election, which is on November 8th, 2022.

The mandatory hours set by the Board of Elections is our regular business hours which is Monday through Wednesday 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Thursday 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., and Friday 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Votes will be cast in the new town council chambers. Please bring a valid photo ID with you.

NOTICE

 

Starting on Monday, October 17th, 2022, the North Smithfield Highway Division will be installing a new pre-cast culvert on a section of Pond House Road. This project will consist of the removal of the old stone culvert and the installation of the new pre-cast culvert. This work will take approximately one (1) week to complete. The work will be done between 7:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.

 

To help expedite this work, Pond House Road will be closed to traffic until the completion of the work. Residents on Pond House Road will have access to the road. There will be flaggers assigned to the project to assist with any issues.

 

Please note that this work could be cancelled without notice due to the weather or other unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may create, but with your patience, and cooperation we can get this work completed as quickly as possible.

Saturday, 5 Nov, VFW Post 6342 will have a Buddy Poppy Fundraiser in front of Brigidos at the Plaza. The fundraiser event will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM. Please stop by and pick up your Buddy Poppy (made by disabled Veterans) and leave a donation. 

 

 

Friday, 11 Nov, VFW Post 6342 will hold their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Scouters Hall at 11:00 AM.

The public is invited along with the NS Boys and Girls Scouts. The Scouts will participate with Veterans by posting the Colors. Town officials are also invited to speak at the Ceremony if they want. A small coalition will be offered at the end of the ceremony.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

A person is being questioned in connection to the death of a University of Georgia student. A UGA spokesperson said the person is currently with police. Nursing student Laken Hope Riley left for a morning run Thursday and concerned friends called police when she never returned. Officers found the 22-year-old's body in a forested area behind the school with "visible injuries."        More U.S. sanctions are being placed on Russia in response to the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. President Biden announced more than 500 sanctions targeting individuals connected to Navalny's imprisonment and death. The sanctions come one day before the two-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.       Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is vowing to stay in the presidential race regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's GOP primary in her home state. Polls are open tomorrow from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. Eastern time.       Two National Guardsmen are dead after a military helicopter crash in Mississippi today. The helicopter was on a routine training flight and crashed in Booneville Friday afternoon. That's near the Alabama border. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves confirmed the tragedy.        The trial for the weapons handler in the "Rust" movie shooting will continue today in New Mexico. Hannah Gutierrez, who is accused of bringing live ammunition to the movie set, has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering. Prosecutors claim Gutierrez is largely responsible for the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film in October of 2021.       A software company could become the third U.S. business to reach a value of two-trillion-dollars. Variety reports Eva Longoria will have a recurring role in season four of the series, although there's no word about her character and storyline. Longoria is the second new cast member announced, joining Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon.
