Early voting will begin on Wednesday, October 19th, through Monday, November 7th, 2022, at Town Hall, 83 Greene Street, for the General Election, which is on November 8th, 2022.

The mandatory hours set by the Board of Elections is our regular business hours which is Monday through Wednesday 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Thursday 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., and Friday 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Votes will be cast in the new town council chambers. Please bring a valid photo ID with you.

NOTICE

 

Starting on Monday, October 17th, 2022, the North Smithfield Highway Division will be installing a new pre-cast culvert on a section of Pond House Road. This project will consist of the removal of the old stone culvert and the installation of the new pre-cast culvert. This work will take approximately one (1) week to complete. The work will be done between 7:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.

 

To help expedite this work, Pond House Road will be closed to traffic until the completion of the work. Residents on Pond House Road will have access to the road. There will be flaggers assigned to the project to assist with any issues.

 

Please note that this work could be cancelled without notice due to the weather or other unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may create, but with your patience, and cooperation we can get this work completed as quickly as possible.

Saturday, 5 Nov, VFW Post 6342 will have a Buddy Poppy Fundraiser in front of Brigidos at the Plaza. The fundraiser event will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM. Please stop by and pick up your Buddy Poppy (made by disabled Veterans) and leave a donation. 

 

 

Friday, 11 Nov, VFW Post 6342 will hold their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Scouters Hall at 11:00 AM.

The public is invited along with the NS Boys and Girls Scouts. The Scouts will participate with Veterans by posting the Colors. Town officials are also invited to speak at the Ceremony if they want. A small coalition will be offered at the end of the ceremony.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

President Biden says he does not think the U.S. shooting down a Chinese surveillance balloon will impact relations between the countries. He also said he has not spoken to President Xi [[ she ]] since the balloon was shot down.        The World Health Organization is warning of a "long-term" impact on health after a major earthquake in Turkey and Syria. A WHO Spokesperson told Sky News it's bringing resources to the area for healthcare after thousands died. She said it's the organization's mission to prevent those affected or injured by the disaster from dying by providing health services quickly.        A top Federal Reserve official is warning of higher interest rates for a longer period of time. Fed Governor Christopher Waller issued that warning at the Arkansas State University Agribusiness Conference. The central bank has been continuously raising interest rates to fight soaring inflation and Waller said "it might be a long fight."        Ukrainian President Zelensky is urging the United Kingdom to provide his country with fighter jets to help in its war against Russia. Zelensky addressed Parliament during his first UK visit since Russia's invasion. In his speech, Zelensky thanked Britain "in advance for powerful English planes," which he has repeatedly asked for.        Twitter is acknowledging that the platform "may not be working as expected." Users began reporting outages and error messages Wednesday evening a few hours after the company posted that "Longer Tweets" had gone live for Twitter Blue subscribers. The character limit for subscribers increased from 280 characters to four-thousand characters.        Fox is projecting a record amount of profits from Super Bowl ad revenue after it reported a boost in its quarterly report. The strong report was due to a sports event slate that featured the men's World Cup and NFL Sundays. Fox said its advertising revenue grew by four-percent in the quarter.
