WOONSOCKET BOARD OF CANVASSERS AND REGISTRATION ANOOUNCES DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE PRIMARY ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2022

 

Woonsocket, RI: Sunday, August 14, 2022, is the deadline to register to vote to be eligible to cast a ballot in the Primary on September 13, 2022.

 

Anyone 18 years of age and over, a Rhode Island resident and a citizen of the United States may register to vote. You must register to vote from your residence address.

 

Any registered voter who has moved from one address to another address within the City of Woonsocket must update their voter registration with the Board of Canvassers.

 

The Board of Canvassers will be accepting registrations on August 14 at the Woonsocket Police Station located at 242 Clinton St. during the hours of 1pm to 4pm.

 

We are also encouraging voters to check their registered party. Any voter wishing to change their party to be eligible to vote in the Primary must do so with the Board of Canvassers by August 15, 2022.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says nothing changes for immigration agents following a federal judge's order restricting their actions. In the Friday ruling, the judge barred federal agents from retaliating against peaceful protesters or using "pepper-spray or similar nonlethal munitions." The order also bars agents from stopping vehicles that are following them as long as they're maintaining a safe distance.        Whether states have the right to ban firearms on private property that's open to the public will be taken up by the Supreme Court this week. At the center of Tuesday's case is a Hawaii law that does just that, unless a gun owner has specific permission from the property owner. Similar laws are in effect in California, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey.        At least 39 people are dead after a high-speed train crash in Spain. The train came off its track Sunday evening local time and then crashed into another high-speed train leaving dozens injured as well. It's the deadliest crash in the country since 2013.        President Trump said he longer feels obligated to focus exclusively on peace after not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize from Norway. Trump laid out his thoughts in a letter to Norway's prime minister where he continued his demands that the U.S. control the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland. He mentioned being rejected for the peace prize despite, in his words, stopping eight wars plus and said now he will think less about peace and more about what is good and proper for the United States.        Nike is releasing a version of its LeBron 23 shoe that honors Martin Luther King Jr. The show is a shade of teal taken from the exterior of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, where King was killed by an assassin's bullet in 1968 and is today the National Civil Rights Museum. The shoe, to be released Tuesday, has faced criticism online for its decision to use the motel's color scheme, but a Nike spokesman noted design is subjective and the intent was to pay homage to Dr. King.        The Divisional Round of the NFL postseason is in the books. The Patriots thumped the Texans 28-16 from Foxboro while the Rams edged the Bears 20-17 in overtime from Chicago. New England visits Denver for the AFC Championship game after the top-seeded Broncos took down the Bills 33-30 in OT on Saturday. Bo Nix fractured his ankle during the game and backup QB Jarrett Stidham will take over.
