RIPTA Service to Run Holiday Schedule In Observance Of Victory Day

Providence, Rhode Island, August 4, 2022… The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will run a Sunday/Holiday service schedule on Monday, August 8, 2022, in observance of Victory Day, an official state holiday.   The Sunday/Holiday schedule will apply to all regular fixed-route buses and trolleys.  All RIPTA offices, except for the Newport Transportation Center, will be closed on Monday, August 8, 2022, in celebration of the holiday.

 

Transportation Centers

 

The Ticket Window in the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center will be closed on Monday, August 8, 2022.  The RIPTA Customer Service Kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center will be open on Monday, August 8.

 

Flex Services

Flex Services will not be available on Monday, except for Route 203 (URI/Narragansett/ South Kingstown), which will run on the Sunday schedule from 10am to 5pm.  The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) will not be staffed on Monday.

 

RIde Paratransit Program

On Monday, August 8, the statewide RIde Program will operate on a holiday schedule.  The RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) will not be staffed on Monday.  However, RIde passengers can leave a detailed message on the appropriate phone line if they want to schedule an upcoming trip.

 

 

Wall Street is closing with stocks higher today. Stocks rose with Alphabet scoring a new record high after reports Meta Platforms was considering buying billions of dollars of the Google parent's AI chips. Investor optimism of a Federal Reserve rate cut in December also boosted markets. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones gained 664 points to 47-112.        The Thanksgiving travel rush is in high gear. The TSA expects to screen over 18-million flyers between today and next Tuesday, and today's the busiest with 52-thousand flights scheduled nation-wide. Officials say air traffic control staffing is back up to pre-government shutdown levels, and flights are largely on-schedule.        Kash Patel's days as FBI director may be numbered. M-S-Now reports President Trump is considering removing Patel in the coming months according to three people with knowledge of the situation. The sources told M-S-Now that top FBI official Andrew Bailey is being considered to replace Patel.        Travelers are being asked by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to be courteous and dress up more when traveling this holiday season. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Duffy called on the public to "maybe dress a little better, which encourages us to maybe behave all a little better." Duffy emphasized the importance of being well dressed and added, "let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."        A new study from the University of Cambridge says the adult epoch doesn't begin for the human brain until age 32. The research shows the first epoch begins at birth and the second kicks in at age nine and lasts until 32. The adult phase, from ages 32 to 66, shows brain architecture stabilizing.        This Black Friday is expected to see more people on the hunt for deals to cut down on spending. Deloitte's 2025 Holiday Retail Survey shows that on average, consumers who plan to shop during the Black Friday to Cyber Monday period expect to spend 622 dollars, down four percent from a year ago. They cite economic uncertainty, a higher cost of living and financial constraints.
