The North Smithfield Police Department has recently been made aware of a scam, in which people are receiving emails notifying them of a traffic citation that has been issued. This email has a link to pay the fine associated with the ticket. These emails appear to come from a traffic court or the town. These are fraudulent emails. The North Smithfield Police Department does not notify people by email when summons have been generated. If you think you may have been a victim of fraud please contact the station.

Officials are giving another update after a seventh person died as a result of injuries sustained in a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois. Officials haven't yet released the names and ages of the individuals who were killed north of Chicago. They're questioning Robert Crimo the Third, who is accused of firing 70 rounds into a crowd during the 4th of July parade.       Stocks are closing mixed as recession fears weigh on Wall Street. A rally in the tech sector helped markets cut sharp losses earlier in the session. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 129 points to 30-967. The S&P added six points to 38-31 and the Nasdaq gained 194 points to 11-322.       A Georgia grand jury is subpoenaing Rudy Giuliani to investigate potential criminal interference in the 2020 election. Reports say Fulton County is also summoning other members of former President Trump's legal team along with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. These subpoenas are the closest to Trump's inner circle as the 23-person special grand jury has summoned so far.       The mayor of Akron, Ohio, says he has a plan to lift the city's curfew. It was issued yesterday following vandalism by people protesting the officer-involved shooting death of Jayland Walker. Mayor Dan Horrigan says he'll rescind the curfew order if there are no safety concerns overnight.       New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is signing seven bills into law today as part of Gun Safety 3.0 [[ three-point-oh ]]. Under the package signed by the Democrat, gun manufacturers and retailers can be held accountable for unchecked marketing and sales of firearms. Meantime, Maryland Republican Governor Larry Hogan is suspending a state law that requires gun owners to prove they have "Good & Substantial Reason" to carry a concealed weapon.       There's something taking place in the Chicago area this week for fans of Lord of the Rings. A four-day Fan Expo Chicago convention starts Thursday in Rosemont. Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd will interact with fans on Saturday and Sunday.
