Rep. Alzate and RI Legislative Black and Latino Caucus thank Dr. Alexander-Scott for her service to RI

 

STATE HOUSE – The Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus, chaired by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket), is releasing the following statement thanking Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott for her service to the residents of Rhode Island.

 

“The Black and Latino Caucus extends to Dr. Alexander-Scott our deepest thanks and gratitude for her commitment to the public health and well-being of all Rhode Islanders.  In particular, we thank her for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and how she strived to ensure that Rhode Island’s most marginalized and affected communities received the care and attention that they deserved,” said Chairwoman Alzate and the Caucus.

 

The Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus (RILBLC) represents and advocates for the interests of disadvantaged people throughout the State of Rhode Island. It seeks to increase a diverse participation and representation in all levels of government. The goal is to close, and ultimately to eliminate, disparities that still exist between white and non-white Americans in every aspect of life.

 

No end in sight. That's the status of the current government shutdown after the Senate rejected a Republican backed spending measure that would have ended the impasse. The measure failed Tuesday, marking the eighth time it has been shot down. The vote came hours after President Trump announced plans to cut programs favored by Democrats, with a full list of targeted programs expected Friday.        Israel is slashing the amount of aid allowed to flow into Gaza following the ceasefire with Hamas. Israel blames the reduction in aid on the slow release of bodies of hostages held by Hamas. The remains of only eight of the 28 deceased captives have been returned so far this week.        A federal immigration operation turned chaotic in Chicago on Tuesday after a chase ended in a crash. Border Patrol agents say the pursuit began when a driver accused of being in the country rammed a federal vehicle and tried to flee. The 19-year-old U.S. citizen ended up being tackled and detained before later being released without charges. City officials condemned the agents' response, calling it dangerous and excessive.        Some serious safety lapses at a Tennessee explosives plant were apparently flagged years before last week's deadly explosion. Sixteen people were killed in the massive blast at Accurate Energetic Systems. A 2019 OSHA inspection noted workers not properly trained on chemical hazards or protective measures, personal protective equipment that wasn't always provided, and employees even being allowed to eat and drink in areas exposed to toxic chemicals.        Court is back in session today in the wrongful death civil trial surrounding the Los Angeles Angels' responsibility for the death of former pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs died from an overdose in 2019 that was linked to pills sold by former Angels communications manager Eric Kay. The attorney that delivered the plaintiff's opening statement blamed the Angels for his death and said the franchise put him in harm's way because of Kay's continued employment.        Walmart is launching a new partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its shopping platform. The integration of ChatGPT will allow customers to plan meals, restock essentials, and discover new products through chat-based interactions.
