House Finance Committee meets on Wednesday to hear testimony on governor’s budget amendment

 

STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m. in Room 35 of the State House to hear testimony on a proposed budget amendment from the governor that relates to taxes.

The proposed amendment to Article 8 in the FY 2021 state budget deals with taxes and is the fourteenth budget amendment submitted by the governor.

The State House remains closed to the public as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hearing will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers. President Trump arrives in Europe today where he's slated to speak at this year's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. As Trump was leaving yesterday, an electrical issue forced Air Force One to return to Joint Base Andrews. The president is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the forum and has also said he has several meetings planned, including discussions centered around his efforts to bring Greenland under        Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to visit Minneapolis on Thursday as tensions escalate over immigration operations. That's according to NBC News, which reports Vance will meet with local leaders and community members. The meeting will involve a roundtable discussion.        A major winter storm is expected to bring ice and snow to a massive stretch of the country this week, from Texas into the Northeast. In the meantime, frigid Arctic air will continue to freeze parts of the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast. Forecasters say that air comes ahead of a storm that will hit much of the Southeast and East Friday through Sunday.        A measles outbreak could cause international health officials to revoke the United States' elimination status. The Pan American Health Organization declared the disease eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but a recent outbreak of more than 640 cases in South Carolina could lead the organization to reconsider its ruling when they meet in April. CDC officials said on Tuesday they aren't overly concerned, noting the disease still isn't widespread and the ruling wouldn't change elimination strategies.        Actor Timothy Busfield will be released from jail while his case progresses through the courts. Busfield is charged with sexually abusing two boys on the set of the television show "The Cleaning Lady." Second Judicial District Judge David Murphy says the prosecutors didn't provide enough evidence that Busfield wouldn't comply with future court orders citing that Busfield did turn himself into authorities.        Netflix has now surpassed 325 million subscribers worldwide. The company made the announcement during a presentation to investors on Tuesday, saying it was increasing operating income by 30-percent thanks to new customer growth in the final quarter or 2025.
