PRESS RELEASE

Given the mandated closings and other restrictions that the corona virus is causing, it is recognized that it may be a challenge for some North Smithfield taxpayers to make payment for fourth quarter property and auto excise taxes that are due on April 15, 2020.  Such being the case, while the due date will remain April 15, 2020, please be advised that the date for imposition of interest and penalties will be delayed until May 15, 2020.  Payments made by May 15, 2020 will therefore result in no penalty or interest.  Those who can make their payments by April 15 are still encouraged to do so, and will be appreciated, as they will ensure that our local services can continue during these very different and challenging times.  For our residents and businesses that are without income we hope this grace period relieves one of your immediate concerns.

That's according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The list of airports that will be impacted reportedly includes major travel hubs such as LAX, New York Laguardia, Chicago O'Hare and Phoenix Sky Harbor.        SNAP recipients will receive more than expected in November as the shutdown rolls on. The USDA said in a court filing that 65-percent of benefits will be paid this month. It previously had said only half of SNAP benefits would be able to be paid this month.        The Justice Department is readying grand jury subpoenas as part of the investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan. That's according to multiple reports. The investigation is related to Brennan's handling of allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.        The Eastern U.S. is set to be hit with a blast of Arctic air weekend. Temperatures are expected to fall from the Dakotas down to Florida, with forecasters saying it will feel more like January than November. That's about 10 to 15 degrees below average.        Texas police say Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland died by suicide at 24. Frisco Police Department say he was found early Thursday morning after a multi-agency search following a car chase. Officers from Plano Police Department responded Wednesday night to a welfare check requested by Kneeland's girlfriend but could not make contact.
