On February 5, 2020, the Statewide Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Peter Manders with three counts of first-degree sexual assault, five counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree child molestation. 

 

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Warwick on diverse dates between August 1, 2016 and June 30, 2019. The Warwick Police Department conducted the investigation.

 

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on February 18, 2020 in Kent County Superior Court.

The Supreme Court has heard arguments related to the so-called "vampire" case. Justices will now weigh a challenge to Hawaii's "vampire rule", which requires anyone carrying a firearm to ask for permission to enter private property. It's called the "vampire rule" because fictional vampires must get permission to enter a home. Similar laws are in effect in California, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey.        Stocks are deeply in the red on Wall Street. President Trump's tariff threats over Greenland rattled markets with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging more 600 points at times today. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were down over one-percent as well.        A large part of the country is in the grips of an Arctic air mass. Parts of Northern Plains, Upper Midwest and Northeast are experiencing life-threatening wind chill temperatures. Freeze warnings are in effect as far south as Georgia and central Florida for tonight. Forecasters say several rounds of heavy snow are also on the way across multiple states this week.        There's no ruling yet from the Supreme Court on the legality of President Trump's global tariffs. The justices heard the case in early November and released opinions this morning without a ruling on tariffs. The court's decision could have massive implications for American consumers and businesses, the economy and presidential authority.        Indiana is celebrating its first ever college football national championship. The Hoosiers took down the Hurricanes 27-21 in the College Football Playoff title game from Miami. Top-ranked Indiana finished a perfect, 16-and-0 on the season while Miami, which ended the year 13-and-3.        Russell Brand is being granted bail after appearing in a UK court via video chat from his home in Florida today. This comes after the actor and comedian was charged with two additional counts of rape and sexual assault in December. Five initial allegations were made against him in the 2023 documentary "Dispatches." His plea hearing is set for February 17th.
